Narrative Writing Lesson – Dice Writing: Mission to the Moon

dice moon picThis fun and engaging writing lesson is ideal for reluctant writers and those students who always say “I don’t know what to write about!”

A story starter is provided that your students can cut off the worksheet and glue into their books. Then they roll a dice and use the table to see what they should write about next. So in this mission to the moon story, if they roll a 3, they write something scratching at the spaceship window into the story.

The dice prompts are meant to give the students something to build on, to spark their own imaginations. Sometimes they will be able to take an idea and write pages about it, other times they will write about an idea and then roll for the next idea.

Model the idea for your students first, but it won’t take them long to roll with the idea – pun intended!
